BiographyMeet Martin Thorley
As an early 60’s baby born in Yorkshire, I grew up in rural environments moving regularly around the country following and learning from parents with commercial and sales led careers. Education lost its appeal at “A” levels following a serious motorcycle crash which lost a year of schooling.
Work in the retail sector started at 14 as a Saturday boy and this became the career choice on leaving school. Moving quickly through the company and around the country I ended up looking outside of retail to field based sales and had my first experience of working with recruiters.
After landing a job in sales, the opportunity to move into recruitment appeared and was snatched gratefully. Working with people as both your product and customer demands a range of skills and behaviours, creating challenges and rewards that I truly believe make it one of the best careers in the world (Ferrari test driver would be as/more appealing).
I joined Merston Peters in 1989 and developed a passion for the agricultural sector; I had been a Young Farmer after all. The company has grown and prospered, driven by a strong competitive desire to be the best. I thoroughly enjoy helping clients and candidates to achieve their goals across an immensely varied market called agriculture.
In my spare time I enjoy socialising, travel, cooking, motorcycling and golf.
